What is a DIV?

A div tag is an HTML element that can group sets of content together. It is a flexible block-based tag commonly used to style content on a web page.

More About DIVs

While other elements such as header and footer describe the content they contain, a div tag is generic. It resides in the body section of an HTML file.

Using a div tag, you can group HTML elements and apply CSS to them. Unless it is styled with CSS, a div tag won’t affect the content or its layout.

Any HTML element can be used within a div tag, but it’s recommended to use other semantic elements. Using a div tag requires editing the HTML code of a page.
